About

What in the word? This is a blog about language and how it’s used, especially in media reporting. I’ll include anecdotes from interviews, musings on etymology and an in depth look at journalism in 2008, from my perch as a staff writer at the Ventura County Reporter.

  • Glad to see you are focusing on the use of language as it’s becoming a lost art. And one of the most public of experts on the subject just passed this week – William F. Buckley, Jr. Although many of his political positions were not mine, his use of the English language, in both written and verbal form, was magnificent. The state of intelligent discussion is in decline and made the more so by his passing. Check this clip of Buckley and Noam Chomsky from 1969 regarding terrorism. http://youtube.com/watch?v=VYlMEVTa-PI
